Dylan Barn

A historic barn in Skillman, New Jersey, has undergone a complete demolition and is now in the process of being rebuilt, with construction anticipated to be finished by August 2024.

Originally, this barn was scheduled to be a key location for a photo shoot in the upcoming Bob Dylan movie, A Complete Unknown, which is currently being filmed in various parts of New Jersey. However, the production team opted to use a nearby church instead, allowing the barn’s owner to move forward with plans for demolition and reconstruction.

Cranbury FarmHouse

This historic farmhouse at Dey Farms in Cranbury, New Jersey was thoughtfully restored and expanded to support large family gatherings while honoring its deep personal and architectural significance. Fortunato Architecture carefully renovated the original two-story home, preserving its unique character through the restoration of original details such as rustic beams and vintage flooring, while seamlessly introducing modern comforts.

The project includes the addition of two new wings designed to integrate harmoniously with the existing farmhouse. These wings provide expanded living space, create distinct private areas, and enhance the home’s overall aesthetic without compromising its historic charm. Their design complements the original structure, resulting in a cohesive and timeless architectural narrative.

A spacious new deck serves as the heart of the home, offering an inviting space for shared moments and multi-generational gatherings. By blending old and new, respecting the past, and thoughtfully designing for connection, this renovation stands as a testament to how intentional architecture can preserve heritage while creating lasting family memories.

Home Renovation in Kingston, N.J.

The New Basement and Deck

The new basement was excavated and extended under the carport, which runs the full length of the deck.During the excavation, a cistern was discovered and repurposed, turning it into a unique focal point in the living area. Two steel beams running the length of the house provide support and allow for an open space plan.

The newly constructed deck also runs the full length of the carport. The basement below greatly expands the living space, providing additional room for the home. The new deck features a gathering area with a firepit, perfect for socializing and enjoying the outdoors.

Our Design Process

At Fortunato Architecture, we take great pride in our technical ability and attention to detail. However, what we value most is our client responsiveness. We enjoy collaborating with our clients, listening to their ideas, and helping bring their visions to life. This was certainly the case with this Kingston house, where we worked closely with the owner to make their vision come true.
